• Details:  This charming puppy figurine is a fantastic, nostalgia filled item.  He is known as "Mopey Dog" and said to be a Scottie, however, we think his sad-eyed face looks more like a Bulldog puppy, or even an English Lab puppy, making him even more endearing.  Made by Federal Glass, it features a beautiful marigold, or soft amber, color glass.  Originally filled with candy and sold to children at the movies during matinees.  Although he is hollow, the original ones had a cardboard covering that could be peeled back to enjoy the candy.  He also came with a chain around his neck, this one is missing the chain.  A genuine piece of vintage history for collectors, or used as decor just about anywhere in your home.

The Federal Glass Company was founded in 1900, in Columbus Ohio. The company began operations making salt and pepper shakers, goblets, measuring cups, and food jars. By the 1920's they had expanded and were making tableware, with patterns which we now call, "Depression Glass" such as: Madrid, Colonial, Normandie, Mayfair, Raindrops, Parrot, Diana, etc. Federal went bankrupt in 1977 - 1978, they finally closed down in 1980. When Federal Glass went out of business, Lancaster Colony, (the parent company to Indiana Glass), purchased their molds and Indiana Glass re-issued many patterns.  After much research, we don't believe this dog was ever re-issued.
