• Details:  This gorgeous plate is part of the long tradition of Bing & Grondahl "Jule Aften" Christmas plates. (Christmas Eve, stemming from Danish/Norwegian for "Jul", meaning Christmas and "Aften", meaning evening).  This is the 1978 edition which is a base relief design titled: A Christmas Tale (Julefortelling).  The back stamp has the B&G mark and information about this plate.  B&G started this tradition in 1895 and have continued releasing a new design every year.  These are limited edition plates, after they're issued, the mould is destroyed, they are fine porcelain collector's plates exclusively created by Bing & Grondahl and are highly desired collectibles.  The plate has pre-drilled holes for hanging with wire or you can use a plate hanger/stand.  This is a beautiful tradition which you will enjoy starting, or continue adding to, every year.  We carry several other plates, if you would like 3 or more Decorative Plates (mix and match from our entire Decorative Plates section), please Contact Us for 20% off, don't forget to let us know which 3 plates you would like.

Bing & Grondahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by Frederik Vilhelm Grondahl, who was a sculptor, along with two merchant brothers,  Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing.  In 1895, Bing & Grondahl created the first in their series of Christmas plates which have been continually released for more than 100 years. The plates have traditional winter scenes in blue and white and are extremely popular with collectors.  Not to be outdone, Royal Copenhagen, originally called "Royal Porcelain Factory" released their own line of Christmas blue and white plates in 1908.  Royal Porcelain Factory is a Danish manufacturer of porcelain products and was founded in Copenhagen in 1775 under the protection of Danish Dowager Queen Juliane Marie.  In 1987 Royal Porcelain Factory acquired Bing & Grondahl, who was their largest competitor, the new company, which includes other mergers, is called "Royal Copenhagen".
