  • Antique: 1920 - 1926
  • Details:  This is a very old and very valuable covered serving bowl.  It is an antique piece from Clinchfield China SPI (SPI = Southern Pottery Inc., which later was renamed Blue Ridge Southern Pottery, see below for more on this pottery).  This is a very simple pattern, the first patterns were kept very simple for the beginner pottery apprentices.  This piece has the backstamp: "Clinchfield China SPI" and it's marked 1-26 which we're guessing it refers to the year 1926.  These pieces are not really used for serving, today these are highly sought-after collectibles and proudly displayed.  Hand washing in a must to maintain condition.  Perfect gift for a Clinchfield or Blue Ridge Pottery collector.
  • Materials: Ceramic
  • Dimensions:  10 inches Long (handle to handle), approx. 8 inches Wide (at its widest point), 5.0 inches Tall including lid.
  • Condition:  Antique - Used.  Very Good Antique Condition.  There are no chips, or scratches on this piece.  There is crazing throughout and a few light stains.  There is a very fine crack on the lid finial, we've zoomed in for you.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear  and imperfections.

Clinchfield Ware company was started around 1916, with its first factory located in the small town of Erwin, Tennessee at the behest of the "Carolina, Clinchfield & Ohio Railroad".  The company’s letterhead read: “Clinchfield on China is like Sterling on Silver", in regards to their high quality.  Commercial production began in 1917 and primarily revolved around producing simple dinnerware, with very simple patterns. Many of the first Clinchfield patterns were made with the use of molds, and applied decals, with evidence of sponging at the edges to adorn the pattern. The first patterns were kept simple for the beginning apprentices.  Shortly after, in 1920, they chartered as Southern Potteries Incorporated (SPI).  Southern Potteries introduced the now famous blue stamp with the name "Blue Ridge" in 1932-33.
